The growth of open source software has meant that you no longer have to spend a fortune to get good software for your PC. Now that smart phones are in effect small computers, there is a growing range of good small applications (apps) that are cheap or free. And now for desktops, laptops, netbooks and tablets we have a graphical based version of linux called ubuntu that is a serious alternative to Windows.

Here are some that I have used and found to be good. Let me know of others you recommend.

Android apps
Software for your PC (Windows or ubuntu)
LibreOffice Base V4.1
Free digital magazines
Software links
