The gut

It is also becoming clear that many diseases are either caused or made worse by the mix of bacteria in the gut. The presence of the wrong bacteria appears to increase inflammation leading to multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. It is suggested that low vegetable and hence low fibre western diets might cause this.(Medscape 1 October 2014) The 'good' bacteria are encouraged by fibre in the gut, and it seems that the effects are speedy - a matter of weeks.
