Perhaps you have tried archery at a Country Fair or on holiday. If you live in North Norfolk and you fancy doing archery as a sport please get in touch with us. We run Have-A-Go sessions every so often when enough people have said they are interested. Click here to go to Club details.

Archery is one of the oldest sports. At times in the past every able-bodied man was expected to practise his archery skills at the village or town shooting range. A bit like the Territorial Army. They didn't have to shoot very accurately. The technique was to send a cloud of arrows to the enemy at a decent distance so they couldn't get close enough for hand-to-hand fighting. The key was to develop strong enough muscles to shoot arrows far enough. To find out more read the actor Robert Hardy's book 'Longbow: A Social and Military History'.

We don't aim at people any more - just targets - and accuracy is now important. And of course women and children shoot too. Archery has everything. It requires skill and relaxation. Improving your scores gives great satisfaction. As your body strengthens you feel really good. Why not give it a try? It's a great sport and the people are great too. After a long lay-off I decided to take up archery again.

Members will, I know, want to thank Keith Eldred for his excellent running of the club. It is in great shape both in terms of finance and assets. Keith has now handed on the baton to Jon Gibbs, to whom a warm welcome.

In Norwich we are fortunate to have an excellent archery shop, Clickers. The people there are knowledgeable and helpful. https://www.clickersarchery.co.uk/
